Justin Stephens talking about the ownership mindset

Ownership Mindset Isn't About Speed. It's About Longevity.

Everybody wants to talk about how fast they can build something. Fast growth, fast wins, fast exits. I get it — speed feels good. But speed isn't what makes an ownership mindset real. Longevity is.

I work at WinCo. I have an ownership mindset there — I own a piece of it, not all of it. But for that piece to actually become mine, I have to work there five years. That's what a vesting period means. You don't get to skip the line. You put in the time, and the time is what earns you the ownership.

That's the shift I want you to make: stop asking "how fast can I do this?" and start asking "how long am I willing to do this?" Length is where success gets built — especially in entrepreneurship, especially when it comes to wealth.

Take what I'm building with America's Holding Company and our Christmas ornaments. I chose Christmas on purpose. It only comes once a year. I'm signing up to go through the pain of entrepreneurship every single year, for the rest of my life, because I know that's what it takes. That's not a one-year bet. That's a longevity bet.

An ownership mindset means you own where you're going. You own why you're going there. You own everything that happens along the way — the wins and the setbacks. It's not about excuses. It's not about complaining. It's about getting things done and figuring out the best way to be successful.

Here's the part that actually changes people: you already own the most valuable thing you'll ever own in your life — your time. You must own your word. You must own your outcomes. That's the whole thing. It was never about owning stuff. Owning things is easy — anybody can do that. It's about owning yourself.

Adopt that mindset and your life changes fast. You'll be shocked how quickly being accountable for your own outcomes becomes just... how you live.

At the end of the day, you only get today. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Time is fleeting — so own it. Own your time. Own your word. Own your mindset. That's how you build a rich, fulfilling life.

Have a great day, everybody.
